Forth Inshore Group

The Bosun’s Locker FIG Race 27th April 2008

Author Liz Tulloch

Twenty -eight yachts set off from Port Edgar in this, the first Inshore Group race of 2008.

The wind was fickle at the start but enough breeze filled in from the east to allow the Fast Handicap Class to get away with a promise of more as the day progressed.
Shoki made an early escape from the pack but Ruby was soon in close pursuit as they broke free of the Bridges and into the wider part of the Firth.
Although the tide was on their side it was painfully slow going in the light airs.
Meantime the wind had dropped to 0 and the Division 2 start was postponed until a definite wind pattern emerged. When it did it came from the west. Spinnakers were hoisted and they were off.
Eventually, as forecast by the Race Committee, a good easterly breeze developed as the tide changed giving the whole fleet a good run home. It was, however, a day when you had to be in the place where the wind was at the right time.

In the fast class, Ruby led and a good performance from Shoki brought her into second place on handicap. Third was Hobbes Express.

The Eygthene 24, Drew, sailed into the lead in Division 2 with the Hboat, Highlander 2 nd and Les Beez Neez from Dalgety Bay 3 rd.

The day ended with competitors being fed and watered by sponsors, The Bosun’s Locker.
